MYST 99: CHAF

You’ve probably heard the phrase “to separate the wheat from the chaff”. That means to remove the bad part of something, leaving the desirable part readily available.

That’s not what CHAF is. It is another acronym that I made up (it goes along with GOYLA.)

I reference a junk food diet that can lead to weight loss. Here is the article: “Twinkie Diet”

Quality food, in the right quantities, is one key to weight loss success.

MYST 98: GOYLA

I’m a nurse and we love our acronyms. Today we are talking about GOYLA and how GOYLA is one tool in your toolbox for weight loss. It may be the key to your success!

MYST 97: Wrong Tools, Wrong Results

If you need to hang a picture on a wall, you need to first place a nail in the wall. You can use a frying pan (I know that it has been done) but a hammer will give you better results. Likewise, if you need to tighten a screw, you can use a butter knife or a screwdriver. Both will turn the screw, but one will be more efficient.

There are many ways to accomplish most goals. Not every method will be as effective as others. And sometimes you choose a tool–or method–that should work, but when you use it, you do not achieve the success you expect.

The failure might not be yours. It may be that the tool you chose was the wrong tool.

MYST 96: Decision Fatigue Can Derail You!

What are you going to wear to work? What are you going to eat for breakfast? Which route are you taking to work? Where are you eating for lunch? What project are you taking care of first?

How many decisions do you make before arriving home? And then you need to decide: What is on the menu for dinner? Not only that, but what are you going to eat that is healthy and will help you make progress to your weight loss goal?

You make many decisions each day. Let’s talk about making decisions when it will give you the greatest chance of success!

I also reference Episode 94 (Planning Ahead).

This is NOT when you want to make your decisions!

MYST 95 All You Can Eat Buffets

Do you like eating at AYCE buffets? I do. I mean, I really, really do! I enjoy the opportunity to sample many different dishes. Unfortunately, that is also one reason I gained so much weight and became fat. (Yes. I use the “f” word sometimes.) But I’ve learned a few techniques that allow me to enjoy buffets and still make progress on my weight loss journey.

An AYCE seafood buffet. You KNOW you want to eat it all!

I also reference tricks that I talk about in episode 93 (Five Simple Steps). If you have not listened to it yet, you probably should before you listen to this show.

MYST 94: Planning Ahead for Success

Benjamin Franklin supposedly once said, “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.” Are you planning your weight loss success? Listen to find out the benefits of planning.

When you plan your day, you know the path to success.

MYST 93: Five Simple Steps

What if you could take just five simple steps and effortlessly lose up to 2.5 pounds a month? Without changing what you eat, logging your food, or increasing your activity? Would you give that a try?

MYST 92: Do! Don’t Try! No Excuses!

Like the oft-quoted Yoda in Star Wars, “Do or do not. There is no try” I make it more blunt. Do it. Now. Or don’t bother.

Here is one of the first “tough love” episodes.

This show may cost me listeners. I will take away a number of excuses that people use when they fail at their goal of weight loss. I am certain I will alienate a few listeners and anger a few others.

Tough.

I am who I am, and I cannot be anyone else.

MYST 91: Motivation and Inspiration

“Help! I need motivation!”

How many times do I read that in LoseIt! from members who are not losing weight. And unfortunately, no one can help them. Oh, we can inspire them, but that really doesn’t do much.

Inspiration are the cheerleaders at a football game. They make people become excited, but they don’t change the outcome of the game. Motivation is inside the players themselves.

MYST 90: A Listener Question–What Is My Secret?

A listener (and fellow LoseIt! user) asked me “What is the secret to your success?”

Do you want to know? Really? Are you willing to do something that is stupidly simple and ridiculously difficult at the same time?
